Americans are nationalistic by nature. We always have been. But after two short centuries of life, we are still questing for self-identity. Much like this whale. We place our hands over our hearts as children, pledge allegiance to a republic, believe we are the masters of our own democracy, and dismiss the grumblings of our elders who use less popular words like oligarchy. Who are we, really? Where is this nation going and who do we look to for answers? Unfortunately, many put their faith in men rather than God.
It’s no secret, several men and women who love our current president REALLY LOVE our current president. He has been compared to Jesus, called a god, and even commissioned to the office of Apostleship by more than a few notable figures. But no one has ever prayed to him… until now. You can read about it here: ‘God Has Given You a Special Power’: Viral Video of Boy Praying to Obama Ignites Outrage. This isn’t a joke.
A YouTube video of a young boy praying to President Obama was posted two days ago. It has already received 148,586 views, 79 likes, and 2,388 dislikes. The numbers suggest that most people who find this video do not support the notion of praying to our earthly leaders. But 79 likes are still 79 likes too many… and as the article highlights, “controversy over perceived Obama worship has been erupting since the 2008 election.”
Leader worship is not only silly, it’s scary. According to Deuteronomy 6:14-15, God is a jealous God who prohibits the worship of all false deities. In His own words, He also presents a compelling case for His transcendence over all men in Job 38. So why would anyone willingly fall into the Romans 1:25 trap, exchange the truth of God for a lie, and worship/serve the creature rather than the Creator? Every president, king, and dictator falls under the jurisdiction of the King of Kings… whether they know it or not.
Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God. – Romans 13:1
The king’s heart is a stream of water in the hand of the LORD; He turns it wherever He will. – Proverbs 21:1
Our earthly leaders are mere men at best. Let’s pray for them rather than pray to them (or think more highly of them than we should). And please… ensure that your children know the difference.
