Morning Coffee

Here are the stories I put in my coffee this morning.

  • Want to Catch God’s Eye?
  • God does not need us, nor is He impressed with any of our works. In fact, Isaiah 66:1-2 demonstrates that all of our efforts are downright silly in light of His greatness.

  • Why We Click Stupid Links
  • Much is at stake with mouse or mobile device in hand. On this day — Augustine’s birthday — may God give us his spiritual wherewithal to not brush aside such important questions in the seemingly mundane of our daily lives.

  • Osteen Keeps Using God’s Band-Width
  • To be clear: I am not against life-coaches or good smiles. I even have a personal soft-spot for a mullet and a well fitting suit. However, what I am against is a guy who continues to use Jesus’ bandwidth to broadcast his message.

  • As One with Authority: The Mandate of Biblical Exposition
  • If you go out and preach as one who has authority, you will be constantly amazed by what God does through the preaching of his Word. You will see those who hear you astonished—and no one will be more astonished than yourself.

Morning Coffee

Here are the stories I put in my coffee this morning.

  • The Class of 2017
  • As far back as they can remember, Michael Tait has been the lead singer of Newsboys, and DC Talk is…who again? DC Talk has not released a new studio album in their lifetime.

  • Bearded Gospel History: Saint Augustine
  • In an age where many have rejected Christianity for intellectual reasons, Augustine reminds us to seek hard after Truth, to study and understand its depths, and never to settle for undeveloped answers.

  • 4 Principles for the Exercise of Christian Liberty
  • Where the gospel is at stake, liberty needs to be exercised; where the stability of a weak Christian is at stake, we need to restrain it.

  • Lessons from the 2013 VMAs
  • We need to remember that God is in control, that God is providentially working out His plan, that there is nothing new under the sun, that sin is sin no matter what shape it takes, that I’m the chief among sinners, and that we need to be like the Men of Issachar. . . “who understood the times and knew what Israel should do.” (I Chronicles 12:32).

  • When the Popular Youth Pastor Gets Arrested Again
  • Our teenagers do not need someone who can put on a great show so much as they need people to love them, teach them, and model the Christian life for them. Such faithfulness would do more to grab the hearts of our teenagers than a large, loud event ever could.
